What you need to know before you dig

WATER EMERGENCY--CALL 928-3128

    How to contact us

Call Before You Dig.  It's the law!

Check out www.callbeforeyoudig.org
and call 1-800-424-5555

Washington State law requires that utility locates be made before you do any digging.  Calling the number noted above at least two working days before beginning any excavation ensures that any publicly-owned underground utilities will be marked.  That will enable you to dig safely, preventing damage to underground utilities, service interruptions, and bodily injury.  The Utility Notification Center is open 24 hours a day, every day, and accepts calls from contractors, homeowners, or anyone planning to dig in Washington State.

You should also be aware that in accordance with State law, CWA may charge up to three times the amount of costs incurred in repairing and relocation of utilities due to failure of person(s) calling to request utility locates.

Answers to frequently asked questions and utility color coding can be found at the Center's website.  Their link is highlighted above.
